Two Witnesses - Revelation 11:3-13

solving the riddle of the two witnesses revelation chapter 11 verse 1 to verse 12,  “and I'll give power to my two witnesses and they will prophesy 1260 days clothed in sackcloth these are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands standing before the God of the earth and if anyone wants to harm them fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies and if anyone wants to harm them he must be killed in this manner these have power to shut heaven so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy and they have power over waters to turn them to blood and destroy the earth with all plagues as often as they desire when they finish their testimony the Beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them overcome them and kill them and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt where also our Lord was crucified then."

Those from the people's tribes tongues and nations will "see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days and not allow their dead bodies to be put in the graves and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and send gifts to one another because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth and now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them and they stood on their feet and great fear fell upon those who saw them and they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them come up here and they ascended to heaven in a cloud and their enemies saw them."

So who are these two witnesses?

First clue the two olive trees revelation 11 “for these are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands standing before the god of the earth.  Zechariah 4:11 the 14 “then I answered and said to him what are these two olive trees at the right of the stand and at its left and I further answered and said to him what are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden oil drains and he answered me and said do you not know what these are and I said no my lord so he said these are the two anointed ones who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth, yes these two angels represented on the Ark of the Covenant are my two witnesses.”

King Solomon also had two cherubim made of olive wood covered with gold that spanned the width of the inner sanctuary one.  King 6:23 “inside the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood each ten cubits high second clue the two lamp stands these are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands standing before the god of the earth.”

So how can two angels also be two lamp stands?

revelation 1:20 “the mystery of the Seven Stars which you saw in my right hand and the Seven golden lamp stands the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches and the seven lamp stands which you saw are the seven churches each church has one angel assigned to it.”

I can only conclude that these two angels belong to Jesus body as churches.

The third clue my two witnesses so what have my two witnesses been witnesses to that no one else can testify. John 20: 11 to 12 “but Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb and she saw two angels in white sitting one at the head and the other at the feet where the body of Jesus had lain these two angels are the only ones recorded in the Bible able to witness the moment of Jesus resurrection and this uniquely qualifies them as my two witnesses

Fourth clue Sodom and Egypt, it is interesting to note that Sodom and Egypt had been mentioned in these verses about the two witnesses the angel of the Lord had two angels with him when he visited Abraham.  Genesis 18 – “so he Abraham lifted his eyes and looked and behold three men were standing by him and when he saw them he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the ground.” Genesis 18:22, “ then the men turned away from there and went towards Sodom but Abraham still stood before the Lord these two angels continued on to visit lot at Sodom and struck the men of Sodom with blindness and led lot and his wife out of Sodom before it was destroyed by fire”. Genesis 19:1 “now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening and lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom.” Genesis 19:10  “but the men reached out their hands and pulled lot into the house with them and shut the door and they struck the mean who write the doorway of the house with blindness both great and small so that they became weary trying to find the door then the men said to lot have you anyone else here son-in-law your sons your daughters or whomever you have in the city take them out of this place for we will destroy this place because the outcry against him has grown great before the face of the Lord and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.” Genesis 19:24, “then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah from the Lord out of the heavens these two angels that traveled with the angel of the Lord have a clear relationship with the biblical account of Sodom.”

Fifth clue by proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. Revelation 11:5 “and if anyone wants to harm them fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies as we have just read these two angels also had the power and authority to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone.”

Sixth clue to strike the earth with all plagues these have the path shut heaven so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy and they have power over waters to turn them to blood and destroyed the earth with all plagues as often as they desire these two angels were capable of striking the men of Sodom with blindness and certainly have the power to call on other plagues such as fire and brimstone at this point I suspect these two angels are Gabriel and Michael.”

 Let's see if they qualify!

Seventh clue these two prophets. Revelation 11:10, “ and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them make merry and send gifts to one another because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth Gabriel prophesied future events to Daniel and Zacharias and by definition is a prophet even though he's an angel.”  Luke 1:19 “and the angel answered and said to him I am Gabriel who stands in the presence of God and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.” Note how Gabriel tells us that he stands in the presence of God just as the olive trees do in Zechariah 4 and  in Daniel 10: 4 to 13 ; someone who matches the description of Jesus in Revelation visited Daniel he tells how Michael had come to his aid.

Eighth clue “and they ascended to heaven in a cloud.”  Revelation 11:12, “and they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them come up here and they ascended to heaven in a cloud and their enemies saw them.” And in  acts 1:9 2:10,  “now when he had spoken these things while they watched he was taken up and a cloud received him out of this and while I looked steadfastly towards heaven as he went up behold two men stood by them in white apparel who also said men of Galilee why do you stand gazing up into heaven this same Jesus who was taken up from you in heaven will say come in like manner as you saw him go into heaven it would seem that it is now time for these two angels to ascend into heaven in a cloud just as Jesus did.”

Gabriel and Michael both have a close relationship with the angel of the Lord and Jesus and the only holy angels named in the Bible.

So how can I be sure this is correct?

During a time of questioning “Jesus spoke to me Jesus declared to me in the presence of the throne of Yehovah I declared that Michael and Gabriel are indeed the two witnesses revealed in the book of Revelation some additional scripture in Matthew 20:22-22,  “then the mother of Zebedee's son came to him with her sons kneeling down asking something from him and he said to her what do you wish she said to him grant that these two sons of mine may sit one on your right hand and the other on the left in your kingdom but Jesus answered and said you do not know what you ask.”

Then you'll twelve one two at that time Michael shall stand up the Great Prince who stands watch over the sons of your people and there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation even to that time and at that time your people shall be delivered everyone who is found written in the book and many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake some to everlasting life some to shame and everlasting contempt.”
